Islamabad, August 30 — A Pakistani anti-terrorism court dismissed Monday the bail petition of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the operations commander of Lashker-e-Taiba, charged with 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

The petition was dismissed by Rawalpindi-based anti-terrorism Judge Malik Muhammad Akram Awan. Lakhvi’s lawyer Khwaja Sultan told to the media that his client would not approach for bail to the high court. The prosecution accused Sultan for filing numerous petitions to delay the trial.
Sultan said, “We will decide on the date for filing the application in the High Court after getting the anti-terrorism court’s detailed order.”
He also claimed that his client should be granted bail because the prosecution failed to produce any solid evidence that links to the Mumbai attacks of 2008 and the case was only based on confessional statement of Ajmal Kasab, the lone alive terrorist sentenced death by Indian court.
Five policemen produced by the prosecution testified Lakhvi as top LeT commander but there has been no proof found that links him to the Mumbai incident claimed Sultan.
The next hearing is on September 18.
Lakhvi was arrested in 2009 for his involvement in 26/11 terror attacks. New Delhi claimed LeT carried out the attacks that killed 166 people.
