The not so well-to-do patients suffering from heart, bone and kidney ailments are all set to get some relief thanks to the Ministry of Health.
Heart, Bone and Kidney patients below poverty line (BPL) will be offered free treatment for heart and kidney disease at government hospitals or the government will reimburse full amount to them.
During the Lok Sabha Question Hour, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that these new provisions are aimed at reducing the rush of patients from all over the country to AIIMS, New Delhi.
“We have started a two-pronged strategy — increasing the number of specialist and super-specialist doctors, and creating infrastructure,” Azad said. “We are trying to upgrade both human resources and infrastructure simultaneously. This year 4,000 additional specialists and super specialists would be added.”
Eight new speciality institutions based on the AIIMS model are being set up in various parts of the country and six of them will be ready in two years time.

The scheme is good in principle and i hope it will be implimented considering the welfare of the suffering patients. Why dont the government consider a comprehensive health insurence scheme for the poor against all sort of ailments with an intension of good health for all irrespective of the economic status of the people. Also making health insurence mandatory for even the well to do section of the people.
The crux of the suggestions is that affordable and quality healthcare should be made avilable to all strata of the populace in the country.
