Chinese Research Scientists have a found a break-through to tackle the deadly H1NI Virus. Fang-Rong Chang and Yang-Chang Wu, the 2 lead scientists, identified the chemicals in the extracts of the “Ferula Assa-foetida” plant to be more effective against the H1N1 virus than the antiviral drugs currently available for Swine flu.
This means that already many Indian households are fighting against the virus without the knowledge of it. Ferula assa-foetida is nothing but “Heeng”, a very common spice used in several Indian cuisines.
The asafoetida plant grows throughout Iran, Afghanistan and mainland China and is commonly known as Devil’s Dung in China due to its pungent smell. The new study confirmed the plant root has antiviral properties that could lead to the development of new swine flu drugs.
The scientists say “Overall, the present study has determined that sesquiterpene coumarins from assa-foetida may serve as promising lead components for new drug development against influenza A (H1N1) viral infection.”
According to several sources, the plant was used widely in China against the influenza virus during the great 1918 Spanish Flu Epidemic.

I work in a clinic– many H1N1, developed throat symptoms and low fever. Sprinkled pinch of asafoetida powder on lunch, fever broke within an hour; recovered easily…used one pinch on food 2-3 times day for a few days, only side effect a little indigestion…Thanks, “Devils Dung!”
