Sierra Gorda mayor Carlos Lopez arrested
The mayor of the Sierra Gorda a small town in northern Chile where the latest Bond film is being shot was arrested on Wednesday (IST) for driving onto the set in a Jeep leading a group of 200 locals.
An official said that the Carlos Lopez, the mayor of Sierra Gorda in the Antofagasta region, 1,200 kilometers north of Santiago, was charged with disorderly conduct & trespassing.
He got away lightly considering that he nearly ran over two people standing near a derelict train station that was being used as a set. The shoot, for the 22nd film in the James Bond franchise, resumed a few minutes after the incident.
Lopez has been complaining about the shooting of the movie in his region, especially since it portrays the territory as part of Bolivia, which actually lost Antofagasta to Chile in a 1879-1883 war between the two neighbors.
