13th July, 2013, Mumbai: Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Pran’s last rites were performed by his sons at Shivaji park crematorium on Saturday. The legendary actor died at the age of 93 at Lilavati Hospital following prolonged illness. The actor is survived by her wife, daughter and two sons.
Well known Bollywood personalities like Anupam Kher, Shatrugan Sinha, Tinu Anand, Danny Denzongpa and Gulzar were spotted at the crematorium.
Pran was born in Delhi. He came to Mumbai in 1945. Pran has appeared in more than four-hundred films since 1940. He was known for his negative roles.
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh condoled the demise of the legendary actor. In his condolence message, Dr. Singh said, “Pran had entertained several generations of Indians with his riveting performances in hundreds of celluloid roles. His versatility in etching a lasting impression on cinema audience’s mind improved with time for which he was bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.”
