ALLAH RAKHA RAHMAN, popular in short as music maestro AR Rahman, makes India proud for another feather in his cap. A triple Oscar nominations in two categories after becoming the first Indian to win the Golden Globe.
This 43 year old finally grabbed his due recognition on the global stage for achievement in music for the movie Slumdog Millionaire. He has been nominated in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song categories for his compositions Jai Ho and O Saya.
Born as a Hindu in Chennai on January 6, 1966, Rahman changed his name from S Dileep Kumar after, in 1970s, his family converted to Islam.
Rahman was first recognized in 1980s for his music in Bombay Dyeing ad. In 1992, he composed music for the film Roja directed by Mani Ratnam. He was awarded the National Film Awards as Best Music Director.
He has composed music for Rangeela, Bombay, Dil Se, Taal, Lagaan and Rang De Basanti.
