It was the day of Bollywood. It was the day of Bollywood song and dance all the way. It was the 81st Academy Awards ceremony held on February 22 in Los Angeles. Bollywood most famour music maestro AR Rahman created history by becoming the first Indian to win two Oscars. He was awarded for Best Original Score in “Slumdog Millionaire” and also for theme song “Jai Ho,” written by lyricist Gulzar.
The Best Director Award went to Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire. Christian Colson, the producer of the film received the Best Film award. Chris Dickens got the Oscar for Best Editing, Resul Pookutty for Best Sound Mixing, Simon Beaufoy for Best Adapted Screenplay and last but not the lease Anthony Dod Mantle for Best Cinematography.
Danny Boyle said in a tribute to Mumbai, “Mumbai dwarfs even this statue (Oscar).” Rahman, overwhelmed, interspersed his speech with Hindi and Tamil after receiving the coveted trophy on Sunday. He said just after in his thank you speech, “There is a dialogue from an old Hindi film – “Mere paas ma hai” – which means I have nothing but a mother. My mother is here, I have her blessings. I am glad she could be here.” In Tamil Rahman said, “God is great.” He says this after winning any award.
