HYDERABAD, India: More than 2,200 pro-Telangana activists under a preventive step by Andhra Pradesh police have been taken into custody ahead of tomorrow’s ‘Chalo Assembly Call’ given by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Students Union.

JAC of Students had initially threatened of storming the State Assembly but later on they decided of taking out a ‘peace rally’ up to Indira Park on Thursday. They demand for passing a Bill on separate Telangana.

A R Anuradha, Inspector General of Police said, “They will not be allowed to take any rally.”

She added, “We have picked up over 2,200 activists across Telangana region who planned to enter Hyderabad as part of plan to march to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.”

Anuradha is the official spokesperson of Andhra Pradesh Police.

In Hyderabad prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC have been clamped. All the roads that lead to the Assemble have also been closed. Heavy security forces have been deployed in all such areas. Paramilitary forces are also deployed along with the state police.

Anuradha also added, “Our apprehension is that it will not only be students but activists drawn from various organisations and professional agitators who will take part in the proposed rally.”

In a reply to a query related to Maoists involvement she said, “We have intelligence inputs that even Maoists are infiltrating into the Telangana movement. We have information that they (Maoists) will also mix up with protesters during the proposed ‘Chalo Assembly Call’ tomorrow.”
