14th December, 2012, Srinagar and Shimla: On Friday, several parts of the Kashmir Valley, including capital Srinagar, received fresh snowfall that even blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The snowfall started late on Thursday evening and by morning, most parts of the Kashmir valley turned white.
To avoid any king of inconvenience of tourists as well as local residents, efforts to clear the show are already underway.
It is not only Kashmir, but many parts of Himachal Pradesh also experienced heavy to moderate snowfall. State capital Shimla received light snowfall, while places like Narkanda and Kufri saw moderate rainfall.
Tourists’ hotspot like Manali was also covered in white blanket following a moderate snowfall. According to the weather department, high-altitude places like Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, Chamba, Kinnaur, Kullu, Spiti and Lahaul have been receiving heavy to moderate snowfall since late Wednesday.
Roads are open in Kinnaur, but the region is still cloudy. According to reports, Himachal Pradesh will be in grip of freezing conditions for next few days. Lower reaches may experience heavy thundershowers, while higher reaches might experience rain with light snow.
