Police arrest 14 Maoists
Apr 5th, 2008 | Category:Cities News, States News14 Maoists, including a top-ranking Maoist leader, have been arrested by Police in Nadia on Friday, Police said today. Two rifles, a revolver, a sten-gun & 100 rounds of cartridges have been seized.
Police has identified the top-ranking Maoist leader as Alok Debnath, wanted for long.
He is considered to be an important link between various Maoist groups. Police hope to get vital clues to Maoist operations in Bengal & Jharkhand from him.
Debnath has been taken to Kotwali PS for interrogation. A senior official of Police said, “Debnath had links with Maoists in different parts of the state & police are coordinating with their counterparts in other states for more information on Debnath”.
Debnath, said to be an expert in underground operations, used to lead action squads from the front. Police have also slapped charges of sedition on him.
