Three arrested with uranium in Navi Mumbai

MUMBAI, India: Three people were arrested with an unspecified amount of uranium in Navi Mumbai. The police didn’t disclose the details of the arrests, not even the time and date as when they were taken into custody.

Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai, Gulabrao Pol informed they arrested from Panvel and surrounding areas. The “suspicious lokking material” was sent for analyzing. It was confirmed the material as exhausted uranium by Mrinal Roy, Regional Director, Central Region (Exploration and Research) in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

Though, the officials refused to unveil the further details of the seizure which can have serious security implications.

“The matter concerns national security and nothing more can be disclosed at the moment. I can only say that further investigation is on,” the office said.
