Can’t stand the station being called CST, says Bal Thackeray

CST-Bal ThackerayMumbai, 28th April: Bal Thackeray wrote wrote in Wednesday’s edition of his party newspaper Saamna that he cannot tolerate people calling the Mumbai station as CST. He wants it to be called Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus as it bears more of the sentiment of Marathi manoos. He wrote in the piece, “I can’t stand that station being called CST. When it has been named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, why is it still being called CST? The term CST will simply not do. At least the Marathi manoos must not tolerate the station being called CST. It must be called Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and nothing else! If you wish to use some other Marathi word instead of terminus, then so be it, but the name Chhatrapati must remain”.

He said that the original naming of the station as Victoria Terminus was also wrong as it would have been named after Nana Shankarshet, as he was the man who brought railways into India.

But Raj Thackeray, the so called champion of Marathi cause referred to the station as VT (Victoria Terminus) when he was at a book release function in the CST station. VT was renamed as Chatrapati Shivaji terminus when Shiv Sena was in power in Maharashtra and at that time, Raj Thackeray was a part of Shiv Sena.
