23rd August, 2013, Mumbai: A 22 year old woman photojournalist, who was out on an assignment for the magazine she works with, was gang raped by five men on Thursday evening. The incident took place at around 8 pm at a deserted Shakti Mills compound in south Mumbai. The woman was with a male colleague who was also beaten up by the assaulters.
According to reports, the man and the woman were taken at an abandoned building by two men. Later three other men joined them. The five assaulters beat up and tied the man and then raped the photojournalist.
The woman and her male colleague then took an auto rickshaw to reach Jaslok hospital which was 4 kilometers away from the incident place. The doctors at the hospital have stated that the condition of the victim is stable.
Police have detailed 20 people and they have also released the sketches of 5 suspects based on the victims’ statements. The police have suspected that the assaulters could be drug addicts. Mumbai Police’s 9 special teams have been asked to investigate and the crime department is also executing a parallel investigation.
