Trailer Lost Control On Second Hooghly Bridge, 1 Killed, 5 Injured

Kolkata, Feb. 06 — A speeding trailer took the life of one person and five others were injured when it lost control on the second Hooghly bridge and hit five vehicles on Saturday said police.

Witnesses say that the trailer was carrying load of logs and it was heading from Kolkata towards the toll plaza when it lost control. The trailer finally overturned and it fell onto a nearby standing SUV at the toll plaza gate.

A traffic police official said, “One person, aged about 40, was killed and five others were seriously injured. They are now admitted to the SSKM Hospital with critical injuries.”

He also added that immediately the people over there went on the rampage after the accident and they protested lacking mechanism of traffic control on the bridge during night hours. Stones were also pelted stones by locals at the traffic police booth on the bridge.

A police officer said, “Later, police along with the Rapid Action Force (RAF) came and brought the situation under control.”
