North India electricity crisis, Train services badly hit

30th July, 2012, New Delhi: Train services were hugely affected in Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab because of a failure of northern grids. A large number of passenger trains were grounded at the way side rail stations due to electricity failure.North India electricity crisis picture

According to reports, railway officials are trying to use diesel engines to start the passenger trains. At some places, the signal system has also blanked because of the power failure. The affected states are Rajasthan, Himachal, UP, Haryana and Delhi.

The CEO of PSOC told that they are trying to restore the electricity since morning. The restoration of the grid may take few more hours. In some places, the power supply has been restored, but the major precedence is for public services such as transport, hospitals and Metro rail services.

Since morning, Metro rail services were badly hit and hundreds of daily passengers were stranded across the stations. The service has been partially restored now.
