29th July, 2013, New Delhi: New Delhi Railway station is all set to be India’s very first Wi Fi enabled railway station. According to reports, Railways has plans to make all busy railway stations Wi Fi enabled and New Delhi station that handles three-hundred trains and around five lakh passengers on a daily basis will be the first to get the taste of Wi Fi.
A Mumbai based firm, which was chosen through tender, has been handed to responsibilities to make New Delhi Railway Station Wi Fi enabled. It will take around 3 to 4 months for the project to be fully operational. The cost for the whole project will be around Rs. 80 lakh. Once operational, people can access internet on all sixteen platforms of the stations.
Wi Fi is a networking technology that uses radio waves to offers internet and network connections.
Howrah-Delhi Rajdhani trains are already Wi Fi enabled.
