Five students killed in stampede in Delhi government school

In a stampede in North East Delhi government school five girls student were killed today morning and 27 other (26 girls) students injured. The stampede was triggered by rumours of a short circuit in the school premises flooded with rain water.

The incident too place in a Senior Secondary School in Khajuri Khas at 9 am when students rushed out of the classrooms after the rumour.

Joint Commissioner of Police has confirmed that 6 girl students were killed and 27 others were injured.

The injured students were taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) Hospital. O P Kalra, the Superintendent of GTB Medical said, “Out of the injured, five students are very critical. They are on life support system. Others are relatively stable and conscious. They are being attended by neuro-surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons and anaesthetics”.

There stampede started when some of the students on the first floor of the school building were asked to come down. The staircase of the building was very narrow and so most of the students got stuck there.

Sheila Dishit, Delhi Chief Minister, after visiting the GTB hospital ordered for a high-level enquiry. She said, “We are very sad that five innocent lives have been lost in the accident. Appropriate action will be taken against those found lax in their duty. Area Deputy Commissioner will conduct an enquiry.”
