The common man car hits the road. Rattan Tata will finally, after overcoming all the obstacles of political opposition and price rise of commodities, be handing over the keys of Tata Nano to its first owner today.

The first owner of Tata Nano is still not known to the media but he or she is likely to be the quintessential ‘man on the street’, with ordinary aspirations.

This great moment of Ratan Tata’s dream project will be held at the company’s showroom in central Mumbai’s Prabhadevi locality. Today’s rollout of Tata Nano will prove to be the litmus test on-road performance of this much awaited common man car.

Through a lottery Tata Motors have selected one lakh customers out of the 2.06 lakh applicants. The first one lakh owners are price-protected and they will be getting Tata Nano at the ex-showroom price of Rs 1 lakh only. The top-end LX model has been the most sought after.

The first Nanos are being produced from a plant in Pantnagar and it is projected that this plant can produce 60,000 units a year.

From today onwards the first one lakh cars will be delivered in a phased manner by the last quarter of next year.
