Sensex falls the lowest on Budget day

Sensex had the biggest fall on the Budget day. It plunged over 869 points on the BSE on concerns over the high fiscal deficit set by the Union Budget 2009-10.

Sensex started dipping down soon after the announcement of budgetary proposals. It dipped below 14,000-point level before closing 869.65 points down at 14,043.40. BSE surpassed the hefty fall of 749 points of 7th January.

Key index touched todays low of 13,959.44 because the heavyweight stocks of Reliance Industries suffered a heavy loss 6.53%.

Nifty tumbled by 258.55 points today to 4,135.70. It hit the lowest of 4,133.70.

Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee mentioned in his budget speech that the fiscal deficit may rise up to 6.8% of GDP in the year 2009-10, the highest since 1994.

The most suffered was that banking sector stocks. It was down by 8.17% to 7,768.63. ICICI Bank tumbled by 10% and HDFC Bank by 5.88%.
