World War II bomb detonated in London
Jun 7th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, World NewsBritish Army engineers have on Saturday detonated a large World War II bomb unearthed this week on a building site. An Army bomb disposal team carried out a controlled explosion on the 2,200-pound German warhead at 5:55 p.m. on Friday. Video of the blast showed brown dirt, debris & black smoke shooting into the air when the bomb went off.
There were no reports of any injuries or damage to surrounding property after the blast. The public was allowed back into the industrial neighbourhood by Friday night. The World War II bomb was found from the banks of the Lea near Three Mills Island in Bromley-by-Bow by the 2012 Olympics site on Monday afternoon.
