Securities of players was hopelessly inadequate: Chidambaram on attack on Lankan players in Pak

Pranab Mukherjee, External Affairs Minister today urged Pakistan on the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers near Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium to take urgent steps to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in their country. With a sound of caution to the international community he also said, “the international community must take note… such kinds of attack will continue if steps are note taken to address the problem.”

P Chidambaram, Home Minister condemned the incident that took in Pakistan strongly in which 6 Lankan players were injured. Chidambaram also added that the security of the players was “hopelessly inadequate” in Pakistan. He said to the reporters in New Delhi that “it is shocking.”

The shootout took place in Lahore’s Liberty Market crossing, in which twelve gunmen with sophisticated weapons, including rocket launchers, singled out the Sri Lankan team. Players who were injured included Thilanna Samaraweera and Upul Tharanga Paranawitharana.

“It is quite obvious that security of the Sri Lankan players has been hopelessly inadequate. We condemn the shooting. We are sorry for them. We hope they are safe and they will recover soon,” Chidambaram added reacting to this shocking terror attack on the players.
