Olympic torch arrives in Tanzania, likely to have peaceful run
Apr 13th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, World NewsThe Olympic torch has arrived in Tanzania on Sunday (IST), where sports officials said they did not expect any trouble during its run in the East African nation. Journalists & Tanzanian sports officials watched as a Chinese Olympic official stepped off a plane & handed the torch over to Dar es Salaam’s mayor, Adam Kimbisa.
Adam Kimbisa said, “It is a great honor & privilege for Tanzania to host this torch. Don’t worry, all preparations are all set”.
Major demonstrations have occurred on the torch’s relay around the world on the way to Beijing for the summer Olympic Games. Thousands of protesters angry at China’s human rights record have demonstrated. The procession in Argentina on Friday was the most trouble-free so far.
Secretary-General Filbert Bayi of the Tanzania Olympic Committee said, however, that all preparations were in place for Sunday’s procession through Tanzania’s commercial capital of Dar es Salaam & that no street demonstrations or attempts to snatch the torch were expected.

DAR ES SALAAM or Dhar am sala?
It sounds like a farce. Did the Chinese government choose DAR ES SALAAM because its sound quite similiar to Dhar am sala, where the Dalai Lama live? As an open provocation to Tibet?
