Kidnapped bus passangers released in Pakistan’s tribal region
Mar 26th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, World NewsThe passengers which were kidnapped in northwestern Pakistan’s tribal region by Armed tribesmen were released on Wednesday. The passengers were released after successful talks between the negotiation team sent by local authorities & the kidnappers.
Armed tribesmen on Wednesday kidnapped 40 passangers of a bus coming from Kabul in Pakistan`s restive border region. An official said that the driver was held at gun-point by the tribesmen and was forced to go to an unknown destination.
The passengers of the “Pakistan-Afghanistan friendship bus” were taken away to an undisclosed location by the tribesmen. The official said that the kidnappers sought the release of certain prisoners in Afghanistan in exchange for the passengers.
The incident occurred even as senior officials of the NATO forces in Afghanistan were holding a meeting with Pakistan Army officials in the Landi Kotal cantonment to discuss the bomb attack on tankers carrying oil for US-led troops in the neighbouring country two days ago.
Six bombs went off in a parking lot, killing two persons & destroying over 40 tankers. The NATO & Pakistan Army officials discussed measures to improve security in the area in the wake of the attack.
