India released Pakistan prisoner Qureshi
Mar 20th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, World NewsIndia on Thursday released a Pakistan prisoner who was arrested in India over two years ago on charges of spying & possessing fake currency was released & handed over to Pakistani authorities at the Wagah border after being acquitted by a court. Jamal Qureshi 30 years old was freed after a fast-track court in Uttar Pradesh cleared him of charges of espionage & possessing fake currency on Monday.
His release coincided with Pakistan’s decision to defer by 30 days the execution of Indian national Sarabjit Singh, who was set to be hanged on April 1. Relatives of Qureshi & journalists of Pakistan were not allowed to meet him by Pakistani authorities, who said he would be sent to his home at Mughalpura in Punjab province after a thorough medical examination.
Caretaker Human Rights Minister Ansar Burney received Qureshi at the Wagah border. Qureshi was arrested in October 2005 when he went to India with his mother to attend a cousin’s wedding.
