Historic building in Quebec collapsed after fire
A historic building in Quebec has caught fire & destroyed on Sunday (IST). No injuries are reported.
Witnesses said that the fire at the Quebec City Armory was followed by an explosion.
An investigation has been launched into a fire that led to most of the historic military armoury in Quebec City being destroyed.
The blaze started in the 123-year-old building on Saturday late night (IST) & spread quickly, ultimately destroying 80 per cent of the structure.
At least eight fire trucks & dozens of firefighters battled the fire. The building was built in 1884 & was under renovation. It was home to a Canadian reserve unit & also contained a museum.
The building was designed by architect Eugene-Etienne Tache & was home to Les Voltigeurs, Canada’s first francophone infantry regiment. It was declared a national historic site in 1986.
