Firefighters dead after fire in Colerain, Hamilton
Two firefighters have been killed in a Colerain Township fire in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States on Friday (IST).
The fire started just after 6 p.m. Friday (IST) at a home located several hundred feet off of Squirrel’s Nest Lane.
Colerain Township’s fire fighters arrived at the home & immediately went in to rescue anyone who they believed may be inside, as due to the hour, they believed it was likely residents may be awake & possibly getting ready for work.
Two residents were rescued safely from the home. However, a “mayday operation” was called after crews were having trouble making contact with other firefighters in the structure.
An unmanned hose was found on the first floor of the home, as was a hole in the floor leading to the basement, where the two firefighter’s bodies were later located.
An official with the Colerain Township Fire Department is calling the fire a “catastrophic event”. The names of the dead firefighters have not yet been released.
