Earthquake in Southern Ocean
An earthquake of magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the open waters of the Southern Ocean near the Australian territory of Macquarie Island on Saturday morning (IST) but no tsunami alert was issued. There were no immediate reports of any causalities.
The earthquake was occurred in the open ocean 110 kilometers southwest of Macquarie Island, Australia’s main sub-Antarctic territory.
The epicentre of this earthquake was 755 kilometers southwest of New Zealand’s uninhabited Auckland Island & some 1,995 kilometers south of the New Zealand capital of Wellington.
