Earthquake in Indonesia
An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck Indonesia’s Aceh province at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. There are no immediate reports of injury or damage. The epicentre of this earthquake was at 113 km northeast of the province & at 30 km under the seabed.
An official said that in Sinabang town, the closest with the epicentre, there have been no report of damage or casualty so far. The official said, “The earthquake was only triggered panic, people fled their homes, but now most of them have already returned homes”.
Indonesia is at a vulnerable zone, the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire” where two continental plates stretching from the western hemisphere through Japan & southeast Asia meet, causing frequent earthquakes.
