Earthquake in China
An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit western China on Friday. But there was no immediate reports of any deaths.
The US Geological Survey said that the earthquake was hit at 6:33 am. The epicentre of this earthquake was 225 kilometres southeast of Hotan in Xinjiang province.
The US Geological Survey said the area as “very seismically active” but said Friday’s temblor was the biggest there on record.
The temblor was followed about 45 minutes later by a magnitude-5.5 aftershock.
Xinjiang is a predominantly Muslim region with a culture that is distinctly different from that of China’s ethnic Han majority.
