China arrested 24 suspects in Lhasa Riots
Senior officials of China on Thursday announced that they had been arrested 24 suspects for involvement in riots that struck Tibet’s regional capital Lhasa last week.
The officials said two dozen suspects had been charged with “endangering national security as well as beating, smashing, looting, arson & other grave crimes. The facts of the crimes are clear & the evidence is solid & they should be severely punished to protect the strictness of the law”.
Earlier, Chinese authorities said they were engaged in a “life or death struggle” over Tibet as dramatic footage emerged of Tibetan protesters rampaging on horseback & hoisting their national flag.
China said on Tuesday that 105 people had surrendered. It was not clear whether the 24 people who were arrested were among the group of 105 who surrendered.
