The Beijing Olympic torch to be arrived Beijing on Monday as police tightened security at the sensitive Tiananmen Square where a grand welcome is being planned to receive it. China is anxious about the smooth odyssey of the Olympic torch when it passes through several countries across the globe & more so when it is planned to be taken to the summit in the Himalayas in May.

Police beefed up the security at the Tiananmen Square, the site of the 1989 pro-democracy crackdown on students, deploying more men on duty.

An official said that the ceremony & “performances” at the square, largest in the world, would last an hour, in case of rain, the site would possibly be shifted to the Great Hall of the People.

An Airbus A330 passenger aircraft with 200 plus seats, including 30 for VIPs, has been chartered to carry the torch on its global tour.

Senior vice president of Air China said, “We will guarantee that it will continue to burn throughout the 11-&-a-half-hour journey from Athens till it arrives in Beijing on Monday after a six-day relay through Greece”.

Top Chinese leaders would attend the ceremony to welcome the flame & officially launch the torch relay of the 2008 Olympic Games.

  1. The CNN coverage of the Chinese olympics is so biased it hurts. They can’t go one minute without saying “tight security” or the words “Tibet” and “unrest” and “protesters”..

I ask then, does Bush do anything without “tight security”??? IS the US a saint and the Dalai Lama a saint too???

Why should the Tibet be allowed to break off of China???? Should Texas be allowed to break up from the US???

It is just plain hipocrisy, China is making a trillion dollar effort to make these games beautiful and these monks are throwing rocks and incendiary bombs at soldiers. I for one would send the police in to give them a deserved whooping.

I wonder how the LAPD would react if riots broke up in the streets….ah, we already know that…nevermind. American hipocrisy.
