Amnesty warning over Sri Lanka
Feb 8th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, World NewsThe sources said that Sri Lanka’s military said it destroyed six rebel bunkers of Tamil Tiger during clashes that killed five guerrillas & one soldier, while a rights group warned that violence is increasing. A defence officer said that Soldiers attacked the rebel bunkers in their northern front lines in Muhamalai & Nagarkovil villages on Thursday & the two sides exchanged gunfire for about a half-hour in which five rebels & one soldier were killed. The sources said that Clashes across three northern fronts Wednesday killed 23 rebels & 11 soldiers injured. Meanwhile, Amnesty International warned that violence by Sri Lankan authorities is increasing & said “threats to the media & media freedoms have increased dramatically.”
