2 killed in Tibet protests
Mar 14th, 2008 | Category:Breaking News, World NewsAt least two people dead in clashes between protesters & security forces in Tibet’s main city of Lhasa have left. An official said that many people had been injured & an unspecified number had died. Rallies have continued all week in what are said to be the largest protests against Beijing’s rule in 20 years.
The official said, “Some of them are still attacking Chinese properties-shops, restaurants, owned by ethnic Chinese. Some of them are looting those shops, taking out the contents & throwing them on huge fires which they’ve lit in the street”.
The United States, Britain & other European states expressed concern over the violence, with the White House calling on Beijing to “respect Tibetan culture” & the US ambassador here asking officials to “act with restraint”.
