12 killed in landslide in Indonesia

A private news channel reported that at least 12 people have been killed in a landslide in a mining camp in Indonesia’s easternmost Papua province. At least nine people were reported missing in Monday’s disaster.

The victims are believed to be employees of US mining giant Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc.

A senior official of Police said, “The accident occurred at around 10.00 p.m. on Monday. Heavy machines could not reach the scene immediately to evacuate the victims. We have recovered 12 bodies”.
